A month food challenge

H4L has agreed to take on a month long challenge with me. A month long challenge? Sound scary? Depends on the challenge huh?

We are going to take on the challenge to not eat out a single paid for meal during the month of August. That is right! All breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, midnight hunts for ice cream, all of it, will only be ingested if I have purchased it during one of our regular grocery store runs. No quick trips for a pint of yummy ice cream, no slips on the diet for a taco run at jack in the crack. Nope! Nada! Zilch!

H4L will be packing not only his lunch but also his breakfast when he travels off to work. We will be only eating food at home for every meal for 31 days. I'm very excited about this. I have just about mastered coupon shopping, meal planning, and OAMC. Now I am taking it to the next level and trying to come up with unique tasty delights that will keep myself and my family eager for more healthy home cooking without fast food or restaurant dining.

Have you ever done this? Do you live this way? Do you have any tasty meal ideas to share?

  1. Ooh! Good Luck! I don't think I could do this one. At least not now. Maybe when we are in month 2 of maternity leave and I'm really feeling the budget crunch.

  2. Oh - If I could get my man to agree, I'd definitely be willing to challenge myself (and if I had help with dishes/cleaning the kitchen, ugh)!
Can I come live with you this month?

  3. Wow! Good luck with that... I'm not sure my family would survive. Especially me, I've come accustomed to take out and the hospital cafeteria lately.

  4. Sounds fabulous! I totally plan to do this when (if) we move to a new house! (We just listed ours this week and today put in an offer on one we love.) Just plan out your meals before you go to the grocery store and make sure you always have several quick, easy "I don't feel like cooking" options in the freezer. Mine is those (not great for you) stuffed breaded chicken breast things and a bag of frozen fries.

  5. Unfortunately, I am a bad book, so I cannot offer any food ideas. Moreover, I cannot join you in your challenge because I have business lunches nearly every week. But I do wish you good luck in meeting the challenge you have set for yourself.

BTW, I would like to let you and other followers of Blest Atheist to know that BA went down. I replaced it with 100th Lamb (www.emahlou.blogspot.com). I explain why there.

  6. That would be HARD! I love getting my break from cooking dinner a couple nights a week. Usually, we eat breakfast and lunch at home. Then, I make dinner Sundays through Thursdays. Friday and Saturday is either out to eat or take out. I like it that way!

Breakfast and lunches probably won't change that much, but Supper...major!! No more chicken nuggets or fish sticks!! Check out this weeks menu http://weedingthroughthereeds.blogspot.com/
