We are THOSE people.

Yes, it is true. We are THOSE people who stop at historical markers when on road trips. We are THOSE people who annoy the kids and family members by making them pose for pictures at historical signs across the country. Yes. We are THOSE people. It comes quite natural to us. H4L being a photographer by passion and myself wanting to document our lives for scrapbooks to reflect on in later years, that I can assure you will probably never actually get put together. You know those folks you drive by and laugh at when you are traveling by, the ones you think "idiots, losers, standing on the side of a road next to a goofy historical plaque. Yep, that is us! Wave next time you pass by us! Maybe even stop in for a quick pic!


Last week we took a short, (I say say short but we literally drove across Texas and back in two days), trip to Paris. Paris, Texas that is, to see Uncle Diamond GRADUATE from school. We are really, really proud of Uncle Diamond fro completing his degree in Jewelry school. We look forward to watching his beautiful designs come to life and add sparkle to peoples lives in the future. Congratulations Uncle Diamond!!!

On our adventure we saw all kinds of wonderful sights, being we also took a route off the beaten path. Yes, really Baby DIVA and Critter 2 are stuck with THOSE parents. We saw a house built into a man made hill, a random exotic animal petting zoo inside someone house, an abandoned old woman's school from the 1880's, and lots and lots of Christmas lights and cows. Baby DIVA loves to "mooooooo" when she sees the four legged creatures. Great fun!

Pink Haired Momma is beginning to leave pink sweat puddles all over town. Not a lovely reminder to leave behind for others to recall about you! While I was hiding from the brutal heat and sun today behind the closed doors and darkened curtains that adorn my windows in my Full blasted Air conditioned home (Yep I will be taking out a loan to pay my Electric bill this summer, glad I am not pregnant! LOL), I was on the hunt for ways to beat the heat. I cam across all kinds of caulk this or tighten this tips for sealing your home up good and tight to prevent AC leaks into the brutal outdoors. Then I happened across this great website that had the answers to my problem with the heat...
Rock and Roll Ice Cream
First put that rock salt in the can with cream, sugar and the other ingredients before getting the kids to roll it into a delicious ice cream treat. Presto: Rock 'n Roll Ice Cream!
What you'll need:
3 pound empty coffee can
1 pound empty coffee can
1 Pint of half & half cream
1/2 Cup of sugar
Rock Salt
Ice (try freezing water in empty milk cartons or whatever container fits into refrigerator freezer.)
How to make it:
Be sure empty cans are clean and free of any smell or residue of soap.
In small can mix half & half with 1/2 cup of sugar. I usually add a small amount of vanilla. You can also add any frozen fruit you like.
Place small can inside big can. Add enough ice to cover small can. Sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of rock salt to ice. Be sure can lids are secure.
Now comes the fun! Put a sheet or other large covering on floor. Everyone have a seat on the floor and start rolling the big can to each other. This takes about 10 minutes of time. Look at the ice cream to see it is hard enough.If it is not, continue to roll a little longer.
Eat the ice cream and enjoy!

Dream Travel in an RV: Where would you go?

You may have noticed that last Sunday there was no Dream Travel post. Well our virtual RV had some routine maintenance to attend to back in our virtual home town of Houston, Texas. While we attended a few family graduation parties and baby showers over the weekend, our Virtual RV was having all of its bells and whistles checked and polished. Now the RV is reading to Rock and Roll again.

Pink Haired Momma, Hubbs-to-be and Baby DIVA are back on the virtual open road heading out to discover all the cool off the beaten path places that their virtual RV will take them!! Woohoo!!

And here we go...

This week we are visiting a totally fabulous "green" living subdivision about 13 miles outside of Taos, New Mexico. This Pink Haired Momma has really been engaging herself and her mind in a wealth of information about living more earth conscious and healthy. During these new discoveries I came across this totally fabulous off the grid community. And of course I am virtually dragging the Hubbs-to-be and Baby DIVA along for the ride. they think I am quite looney but sure do love my Pink Haired craziness and will virtually go where not other hubbs-to-be, Baby DIVA and Pink Haired Momma have gone before, just to make me happy! Gotta love my family!

The fabulous community/subdivision is known at the Greater World. It is completely self sustainable. Not only is this community off the grid, and by this I mean no water lines, no sewer lines, no electrical lines, and no gas lines, but the total green homes are absolutely beautiful. In more ways than one. Beautiful for the environment and beautiful for the eyes to see!

The homes that are part of this community are commonly known as Earthships. What is an Earthship? An earthship, as I understand it, is a structure made of natural and recycled product that relies on solar energies to function. Totally awesome if you ask me. The Earthships in this area are literally designed and made from tires, aluminum cans and soil. Fantabulous guys! Simply Fantabulous! Environmentally friendly and gorgeous!

This is such a wonderful concept. Living green in a modern passionate way while preserving the earth but still providing beauty to the beholder of each home. It is the best of both worlds. I love it!

Now of course rolling into this wonderful town in a fabulous gas guzzling virtual RV is just too dang tacky. So we virtually parked down the street out of the way and rode our bikes into town!

My personal thoughts on Pull Over DIVA response

Although the response is welcomed and I am happy that my voice was in fact heard, I feel it does not get me any further to an answer to my concerns. The problem is still apparent. I do not want to purposely anger the police officer if I take my time in exiting the freeway to protect my child which can result in the officers discretion as to how to handle me. I have seen far to many incidences where an officers "discretion" was used and such discretion was used to taser a traffic stop citizen or arrest them for an unjust reason (usually later deemed unjust by the court system). I also have taken a slight defense to the "follow all the traffic laws" statement in this email. I find that this is implying that I the Pink Haired Momma would be "guilty" of the offense if a police officer has pulled me over. However it is my understanding that I have the right as a citizen to go through the legal system and appear before a judge and my peers before the guilt is associated with me, if in fact I am truly guilty of said citation. I also would like to note that an officer is human and can make issue citations when no citations would be necessary, again to be decided in a court of law. Just my thoughts in response to this email.

Response to Pull Over Baby DIVA

A few days ago I posted a concerning question that I posed to various transportation agencies around Texas regarding the safety of my child during a traffic stop by police. I promised you, the reader, I would update you as responses were received and given to me the Pink Haired Momma. I received the first response yesterday from the Texas Department of Transportation. Although the response is welcomed and I am happy that my voice was in fact heard, I feel it does not get me any further to an answer to my concerns. I would like to hear what your thoughts are on this concern as well as the response I received from the Texas Department of Transportation. As to not taint your own individual thoughts I will wait and post my personal response at a later time.

Ms. (Pink Haired Momma),
There are no state statutes that cover the scenario you provided. When stopped by an emergency vehicle, drivers are required to pull to the right and stop. Common sense yields that the location of the stop should be in a safe area. Many agencies conduct traffic stops on freeways on the shoulder. However, I’m sure those officers would prefer to be in a safer location during the stop. As long as the nearest exit is used and you make your intentions to the officer as clear as possible as you’ve suggested, I believe you will be ok. It is up to the discretion of each officer to decide if the driver is attempting to evade arrest or attempting to find a safe place to stop.

Another suggestion would be to obey all of the traffic laws and, therefore, never provide an opportunity to placed in this situation.

I wish you safe travels for you and your child.

Calling all Wallerites!!!!

I am an original small town girl! Grew up the big old town of Waller, Texas. We had 3 stop lights back in the dark ages of my youth! Now Waller has grown to quite the bustling city, yet still small! I do stay in touch with roots as my best friend ,whom you have met before K-Teach is now the drill team director for the dance team we once were active members of. Wow the circle of life!

I just received word that my small hometown is going to be celebrating a fabulous event this fall. Waller will be receiving a new football stadium! BIG NEWS Guys! You know Texans and their football! I honestly could care less about football, but I am supportive of my hometown! It is going to be quite a fabulous event. All day affair with lots and lots of family activities followed by the first football game of the season and in the new stadium and a huge fireworks display. It is also turning out to be a reunion for ALL classes that have graduated from Waller!

I am looking so forward to taking my Hubbs-to-be and Baby DIVA back to my home town and seeing all the old familiar faces! I doubt anyone with think twice about my lovely Hot Pink Momma hair! LOL

Pull Over Baby DIVA?

Recently I was driving along the freeway when My Pink Haired brain poofed an incredible thought. “What if I get pulled over by a cop while Baby DIVA is in the car?” I do not feel comfortable pulling off to the side of the freeway and parking. There are too many crazy not attention paying freaks who won’t put down their blackberry and are trying to twitter about the traffic that they just might slam in to my car and injure my child.

NO THANK YOU!!!

Recently here In Houston we have experienced a horrible accident on the freeway system that not only took the life of 2 individuals it also injured a police officer. What you ask happened? Well the deceased individuals had their cars parked on the shoulder as well as the officer who was injured. Another car did in fact slam in to them and it resulted in a catastrophic nightmare. These kinds of accidents, although they seem rare, do happen. I am not willing to take any chance with my daughter’s life. Shouldn't’t a citizen be able to take a few extra moments to remove themselves from harm’s way?

I went to my parents, who lucky for me, just happen to be traffic attorney's, and asked them about this situation. I questioned them with the following: I am concerned that if I am being pulled over by a police officer on the freeway and I turn on my flashers and carefully and safely try and exit the freeway and proceed to a safe out of danger place to pull my car over, that I am in turn just going to anger the police officer to the point where he gives further citations. Is there a proper protocol for this matter and if so how do I handle this scenario? How do I properly alert the officer that I am going to comply with his request to pull over, however I am choosing to do so in a safe manner to protect the safety of my child who is in the car?

You may think that a police officer would not be angered by such scenario; I assure you that you are wrong. If a police officer has to follow you for unknown reasons he or she is most likely not going to be happy. And who could blame him? If the officer has no idea what is going on in your vehicle, he has only been trained to expect the worst.

Mom and Pop alerted me to that fact that we do not have a protocol for such scenario. In fact there are not any laws or legislation in regards to the safety of the passengers in the car or how to exit properly if you have an infant or children in the car. There is just a law or understanding that you pull over to the right side as quickly and safely as possible.

HMMMM! Interesting! I pondered this for a moment.

Then I decided to take it upon myself to contact my state representatives, John Coryn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, the Houston Police Chief, and the Texas Department of Public Safety in regards to this matter. I am curious if this has ever been addressed. I am also hoping that by raising and proposing this question officers can be alerted to this concern parents may have about being pulled over for citations while driving on the freeway system.

I propose that officers be aware that cars that carry a “Baby on Board” sticker may need to take a few extra moments in getting off the freeway before the citation process begins. By simply switching the flasher lights on coupled with the “Baby on Board” sign should generate enough warning to the officer that a citizen is in fact following the requested act that the area of concern should be diminished. I hope that open communication on this matter between the local police and the citizens can draw a conclusion that the child’s safety is of concern and we can work together to try and do what we can to prevent as many tragedies as possible.

I am currently waiting on response from the State Representatives, Houston Police Chief and the Texas Department of Public Safety. I will update you to their responses upon receipt.

Disney for Free

Baby DIVA is being brought up in a dual language family. Not only am I hoping that she grasps English and Spanish as native tongue but I also have high hopes she learns a third or more languages of her choosing as she gets older. While browsing through some of my favorite Houston outing hot spots today I cam across and totally fabulous adventure that seems to highlight my passion for Baby DIVA and my hopes for her and her multi-language quest in life.


Miller Outdoor Theatre, right here in our fabulous city of Houston is hosting a beautiful interpretation of Disney's Aladdin in dual languages on June 9-11 at 11:00am. Now this is not just a "dual" translated interpretation. The plot revolves around multiple languages. It seems that Aladdin and all the townspeople speak English while Jasmine only speaks Spanish. Jafar however has the ability to understand and speak both English and Spanish. This interpretation enables the viewer to be immersed in multiple languages in a familiar scenario and I think it is lovely!!

Hungry much for fresh food? Well then head on over to Katy for the totally fabulous and fun atmosphere of the Farmers Market! Starting in the early morning hours of 800am you can find an enormous range of fresh organic locally grown produce as well as local meat products, herbs, spices and gifts at LaCenterra in Katy, Texas. The market runs until 12pm and caters to your every produce fantasy. Not to mention there is always a musical entertainment feature! What a fabulous way to spend a morning. Strolling about the warm summer day taking in the sweet aroma of fresh fruit and vegetables while listening to the delightful sounds of local artists. Ahhh Life is grand!!
Cost: well that depends on how many veggies you decide to purchase, however entrance into the market is FREE!

Momma needs TAI CHI

Now this is a wonderful and exciting adventure for Mommas to do if they can get Daddy to watch the babes. And it also benefits a great cause and is FREE and good for your mind, body and soul! So, What is this you ask? Well it is an early Saturday morning Tai Chi class. How relaxing would it be to spend some Momma time in a soothing relaxing exercise class and the either meet the family at the farmers market after or stroll the fresh rows of lovely vegetable aisles alone. This wonderful adventure is located very close to the area of the farmers market!
Time: 8:30 am LaCenterra offers free Tai Chi classes every Saturday morning on the balcony of the Heritage Square clock tower building. The sessions are hosted by Yoga to You owner Cynthia Leathers and/or PHRC & Med Spa massage therapist Trina Maxwell.

It is first come first serve, so wake up early and feed the Tykes, load them up in car and get there early. Door open at 9am!! Get the early my friend. You know how us crazy moms can get. We be pushing each other outta the way so OUR kid can see that Monkey on the big screen for free!!


Now that movie thing sounds great, but Baby DIVA is just not quite old enough to sit still and watch a full movie just yet. I mean we are doing good if we get through a whole episode of Wow! Wow! Wubzy! All you moms out there do not have to worry about battling it out with the Pink Haired Momma at the movie door this Summer. Next Summer it is totally on!

Instead you can probably catch Pink Haired Momma and Baby DIVA heading out on this fun and exciting adventure that involves boats, outdoors and learning about our dear city Houston, Texas. This FREE 90 minute boat ride through the Houston Ship Channel or Port of Houston makes for a fantastic outing. Reservations must be made in advance, however it is totally free and has tons of cool scenery for babes like Baby DIVA to take in and new experiences for older Tykes and a history lesson for moms! Awesome!

Dream Travel in an RV: Where would you go?

We have driven all the way to Paris from Houston, Texas in our RV!!

Although we are traveling virtually in our RV, this week we are focusing on a small town in our favorite state, Texas, that actually holds a great place in our heart.

Baby DIVA's, Uncle Diamond, currently resides in this chic cow town and he is polishing up his skills at school and is about to enter the career world as a full artistic educated jewelry designer!! (Side note: Uncle diamond is designing and surprising Pink Haired Momma and Hubbs-to-be with one of a kind wedding rings!! Keep a look out over the next few months for the updates and pictures of this fabulous event!)

So what is so special about this chic cow town?

In a world as vast as ours, there are so many sites to see. And yet sometimes these sites are so far away and you find yourself separated by thousands of miles of ocean, or tall mountains, and various other terrain issues. You may find yourself longing to stand before an icon in France and have the typical tourist picture snapped as you gaze lovingly at its splendor. Unfortunately the distance is too broad and your passport is expired. So instead you hop in your trusty RV, head over to Paris...Texas and grab that tourist snapshot in front of this...

And we Texans gave the Eiffel tower the most fabulous and necessary accessory...The totally rad and fabulously chic cowgirl hat!!! Throw on your boots and your designer scarf and get your picture here!!!

You must stop by here if you are in the area. It is a great place and photo op and is a nice quiet town to relax in for a bit.

Flaming Gallery Furniture

It is a sad day here in Houston, Texas. If you are from this area you probably are familiar with a Houstonian we all know and love MATTRESS MACK and his Gallery Furniture.

If you are not familiar with Mattress Mack you are totally missing out. He really will "save you money" on all your furniture needs and will deliver your new furniture the same day you purchase; according to his advertisement. And he keeps his word and does just that. He has built an empire here in Houston over the last 20 years. Mattress Mack plays an active role in the community and focuses alot of time on charities and he really strives to help others.

Well yesterday the unthinkable happened. Gallery Furniture ,a historical and comical location to Houstonians,went up in flames. I am so saddened to hear about this. I have grown up my whole life hearing the famous and distinct voice of Mattress Mack telling me he will "save you money"! God Bless you Mack and your store. Here is wishing you a speedy cleanup and recovery!

Plato's Closet door is shut!!

MAN! AM I MAD! AND YES THIS IS IN CAPS TO EXPRESS MY ANGER!!!!!!

UGH!!!!!!

So you remember just yesterday I realized how horrible at cleaning this Pink Haired mom is. I went through and cleaned out the closet and came out holding 6 bags of clothes that I need to get rid of. Well I did some research and found a cool consignment store nearby (or so the website conned me into believing) and thought I would take my bags over there and let them have a look see and whatever they did not want I would donate or freecycle!!

So I load up Baby DIVA, (which you parents out there know this is not an easy task: prepare child for car trip, pack diaper bag and fill with all essential gear in case Armageddon hits while you are out, put babe in car seat, put car seat in car, triple check to make sure car seat is secure, close door, re-open door and check one more time to make sure car seat is in place Etc etc). So anyway Baby DIVA was loaded, the 6 bags of clothes were loaded and Pink Hair here was loaded. So off we go to this consignment store!

Upon entering the following occurred:

Sales chick walks up to me and looks at me with Baby DIVA and says the following,
"I don't think we have your size. We only take Juniors and small sizes."

Ummmm hello what the HELL!!! I don't even get to say Hello before you start judging what I might be doing in your store. How do you know that I am coming to your store for selling? I might be coming into buy. I could be walking in to tell you the store just won the lottery!! I was infuriated!!! I just looked at the woman and said "BYE" and with that Baby DIVA and I turned away and left. Little did that sales chick know that my 6 bags of clothes are filled with name brand almost new clothing that "juniors" would love to have and they are of a small size because before getting pregnant I WAS a small size!!! I am just so perturbed!!!

So in revenge I will not only NEVER EVER EVER shop or sell there, I am going to spread the word about how much I despise them!


They are actually a chain. The name is Plato's Closet.

The sales chick with "small size only" attitude is at the Mason Road store in Katy, Texas!

Thanks Plato's closet I will take my clothes and donate them to those who need them regardless of their small or large stature!!! And I will gladly share my experience from your store with everyone I know!

Dream Travel: In an RV!!! Where would you go?

You dont have to tell me I know I am crazy!!!

The last few months I have had this wild and crazy idea that we should/NEED to rent out our house and buy and RV and take our life on the road!! I would love to have a nomadic lifestyle the next few years all the while learning about our great continent of North America and teaching Amelia that she can pursue whatever she dreams, just so long as she does it responsibly.

Hubbs-to-be is not as excited about this endeavor as me. However being the greatest man ever he lets me ramble on about the possibilities of living in an RV and crossing the country many time over.

GUIDED IMAGERY: Take a moment and just visualize Crazy Pink haired mom at the giant wheel of the portable house on wheels with Handsome Hubbs-to-be beside her and Baby Diva chillaxin in her On the go Crib!!!! LOL Totally Love it!!!

Financing such a lifestyle may be quite tricky. I have secured a work from home job and could possibly parlay this is to a traveling work from RV gig. I have learned that in the customer service field I am in almost all the at-home positions require a modem attached Internet connection, not wireless. After research on the subject I have located many RV sites across the country that enable just this connection to occur. So problem solved...not exactly.

The Hubbs-to-be will need to have an On The Go gig too. He is not a customer service potential employee. That type of work is just not in his blood, so sweet as he may be to me, just not the field for him. He would need a full time paying gig in the form of a remote computer, photography or graphics field. We are still searching; rather I am searching and HOPING!!

After some preliminary research into the traveling dream lifestyle, we have come to the conclusion that it just might not be in our cards right now. Maybe that will change in the future. We both strongly believe that if the time is right then the process will come with ease and we will just fall right into our nomadic life.

Until then, I am going to post once a week, an incredibly fun, unique and off the beaten path place we would love to visit when the time comes that we will be able to live the nomadic lifestyle of our dreams.

When we take off on our dream journey some day in the future we will be starting out right here in Houston, Texas. It is only appropriate to begin this collection with a unique spot right here at home!!!!
