Daddy Mail

H4L has been working a lot of overtime lately. I have to admit I am not so sad, although I do miss him being home, but the extra money is quite lovely! Baby DIVA however, is a bit sad. Most days daddy is already gone to work by the time she awakens from her sleeping beauty spell. And Baby DIVA is tucked in, lullaby sang, teeth brushed, butt bathed and snoozed well before daddy returns from work, if I am lucky. So this leaves her missing daddy terribly. So much so that she rips out momma's heart on the weekend when daddy is home, by ONLY wanting daddy. So sad. For her and for me! Well I hate to see her missing her pops, so I came up with a plan.

I would like to introduce you to the DADDY MAIL.

Photobucket

Daddy mail is a unique invention of mine that will connect Baby DIVA and Daddy every morning. You see I am just so brilliant ( you may laugh now), I took a simple box and turned it into the "magic DADDY MAIL box" with some simple construction paper and markers. Nothing Fancy. Just a special DADDY MAIL box for Baby DIVA. I then took some very pretty note cards and inside each one a placed a picture of Baby DIVA and daddy. Every morning, before Daddy leaves for work, he can write a special message inside the note card, along with the special picture that momma placed inside. Daddy can "mail" his letter to Baby DIVA as he leaves for work, and then when she wakes up she can "check" her mail from daddy. We, myself and Baby DIVA, can then look at the picture of her and daddy, talk about daddy, I can read her Daddy's message and she can babble "dadadadadada" at me for a while.

Photobucket

Silly? maybe. Corny? maybe. Effective? I sure hope so! I think it is a great way for the two of them to stay in touch while he works all these extra hours. I am really hoping it helps her not miss him so much throughout the week. We will see how this week goes! Time will tell if DADDY MAIL is a hit!!

Color Yard

I am so tired of winter. I am bored with all the Gray skies and cold temperatures. I am so tired of being cooped up inside. Baby DIVA is going stir crazy too. Doesn't mother nature understand that toddlers need to RUN outside and breathe in the fresh air? Tissue paper gardens and fake construction paper suns just ain't cutting it anymore!!!

We finally had a day of sunshine this last week. And on top of Mr. Sun coming out to visit, mother nature also gave us temps in the upper 60's. Baby DIVA and I awoke and dressed and sat at the back door waiting for the sun to warm the back yard just enough that we could venture out into the wonderful world of our backyard. Armed with cans of spray paint, I was determined to add "color" into our world, just in case Mr. Sun decided to return to his winter vacation home.

We simply sprayed a few plain clay pots with all different colors of spray paint. Nothing fancy. Just simple color added to whatever we had laying around the house. Baby DIVA really enjoys pinwheels, so until spring has made itself known, these are all that will live in our pots. It adds a bit of whimsical color to the yard. Not to mention is was just utterly fabulous to be outside soaking up the sun all day!

The pretty colorful corner of our yard that is begging Spring to please come soon!!

It must be near...

I think Winter must be packing its bags. I found this hiding in my backyard yesterday!!

It is quite small, hiding amongst the dead debris left by frequent freezes us Texans are not quite used to; but it is in fact green vegetation and is showing signs of growth!! Yippee!!

This last week I brought to the forefront my need to reintroduce exercise into my daily life. No, I am not a marathon runner one week later, but I did plan and execute an idea that allows movement to enter my world. Every morning Baby DIVA and I have a "Morning Shake-up". I turn on an 80's CD and we dance around. Obviously this is a new event in our morning routine, and is was met with a little resistance. However, both Baby DIVA and myself quickly found this to be loads of fun and look forward to it each morning.

Unleash the Pink

Wordless Wednesday

I look at these pictures sometimes and wonder what it would be like if...

There were two of them...

If I awoke each day to Baby DIVA #1 and #2...

And then I find myself frightened...
But quickly I return to reality when I realize just 1 wild and crazy Baby DIVA is more than enough!
Happy Wednesday!!

Tommee Tippee Explora Training Cup Review

It is quite possible you remember this post, where I mentioned that after a brief introduction to the "sippy", Baby DIVA decided she no longer needed a bottle. She was only 6 months old. Yes, my child gave up the bottle on her own at 6 months. I am a super dooper genius mom. Okay, so off my high horse and back to reality. Now you might be thinking that this is spectacular right? Sure. Except in place of her bottle she latched on to 1, let me tell you 1 type of sippy. If she is offered anything but this special sippy, forget about it. She prefers dehydration to any other sippy! Her stubbornness leaked through like crazy as we begin to stock up on the one style and brand of sippy that Baby DIVA found acceptable to consume her beverages by. We adapted, or rather we were trained by a toddler, as we all do when our children lay the law down.

Photobucket

Then 2 weeks ago, Tommee Tippee , sent me a sample of their product Explora® truly spill proof trainer up to review. I received a total of 4 sippy cups, 2 with handles and 2 with out. Baby DIVA has yet to show any interest in handleless sippy cups, so we stuck to the basics, the handles variety supplied by Tomme Tippee. After removing the handled cups from their packaging and of course giving them a bath, I filled up the the trainer cup with Baby DIVA approved beverages and handed it to her, hopeful, in suspense, wondering what lay in store for this trainer cup.

Photobucket
SCORE!

This is the first sippy that she has taken to besides the munchkin brand she has been using since she was 6 months old! You do not know how excited I am about this. The Tomme Tippee sippy cups are made of BPA free material and are very sturdy. That is a GIANT check in my book. The handles are constructed so that they are flexible to little hands yet sturdy so that said little hands can hold on. The lid screws on and is so snug that we have not had a single leak in the 2 weeks we have been using this product. Another real awesome feature is the mouth spout, nipple area. It is constructed of a solid material that is quite pliable. Baby DIVA can get a good grip but can not chomp through with her 14 teeth. She has also really enjoyed opening and closing the attached nipple cover. It is quite cute to watch her "open" it each time she wants a drink.

Tommee Tippee provided us with an Explora® truly spill proof trainer up . According to the website:

Explora® is a progressively staged feeding range, promoting seamless transitions from first sips & tastes to freedom in independent feeding & drinking.
Our superior advance-flo(tm) technology guarantees easier, super sensitive drinking without spills or leaks and the feeding products are intuitively designed for less mess and stress.

Here on the specs on this style of Sippy:
explora® truly spill proof trainer cup x 1 - Green / Pink
1 x 9floz/266ml cup
Stage 1 cup
Advance-flo™ technology for easy drinking
Unique soft-flex spout protects gums
Easy to hold handles
Hygiene Cap
Truly non spill & leak proof
BPA Free

Unlike other valve systems our active sensor valve is designed by a physicist to be both so sensitive that liquid flows on demand, yet truly spill and leak proof

Photobucket

I am very pleased with this new sippy. My mom even remarked on how well made this product is after spending an afternoon with Baby DIVA. Tomme Tippee as found a place in our home, as well as a place in Baby DIVA's hand.
*I was not compensated by monetary means in regards to this product. The opinions expressed are of my own with no persuasions in any matter.

Turkey Squash Chili

I haven't posted a recipe in a while. But I also haven't cooked in a while. It has been so cold and I have been battling a silly sinus bug on and off for what seems like FOREVER, that I have been just whipping up some old favorites that are easy in the Kitchen. Nothing fascinating, I tell ya, until now. It is so dang cold here, and we obviously can not go outside, so I made Turkey Squash Chili!!!

Here is what you need:
Photobucket
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground turkey breast
1 pound butternut squash - peeled, seeded and cut into small bite size pieces
1 can cream of chicken soup
2 (14.5 ounce) cans petite diced tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon garlic salt

And here is how you make this fabulous warm dinner:
Photobucket
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Stir in the onion and garlic; cook and stir for 3 minutes, then add the turkey, and stir until crumbly and no longer pink.
Photobucket

Add the butternut squash, cream of chicken , tomatoes, kidney beans, and tomato sauce; season with chili powder, cumin, and garlic salt.
Photobucket

Photobucket
Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the squash is tender, about 20 minutes.
Photobucket
Serve alone or with sour cream and tortilla chips! Scrumdiliumpcious!!!

Valentines

What does Valentine's Day mean to you?

For me, it is a commercialized day of hell. We are forced to worship and shower our beloved in all kinds of monetary gifts (even the ones we eat, are retail driven). We are forced to search high and low for that one special gift that declares our love, all the while the rest of the world is on the same mission. We stress our selves out trying to make sure the "gift" represents in great detail the value we place on our beloved, all the while terrified that our beloved may not feel the "gift" is enough. Love should come natural. It should not be a forced material possession. It simply must come into your life like a falling leaf or passing cloud. Gentle, honest, and beautiful.

Unleash the Pink #2

So how did you do with your first week of Unleashing the Pink go? Did you complete your collage board? Have you been working on your qualities? Did you accept my PINKY DARE!!!? Did you learn anything about yourself that you didn't know? Please share your stories and accomplishments with me. Feel free to link back; the more the better, and it keeps you accountable! And girl, if you slipped, it's okay, share that too! We will make a martini and put a boa around your neck and get you back on track!

I do not expect that you will have designed and constructed your board and now house all the fine qualities you are striving for. Nope, not at all. I do think by spending this last week focusing on these qualities you have sparked a fire in yourself. You will be able to utilize this board from here on out as you grow as a person, an individual, a Sexy, fun-loving woman!

I would like to report that I had a productive week 1. I made my collage board and really focused on putting the qualities into my everyday life. I spent a lot of time planning and organizing my board. I thought about each quality and how I want in represented. Once my qualities were chosen I went to work constructing the collage to represent ME and what I want to gain from this experience.
*At the time of this writing blogger is not being cooperative in embedding a picture of my collage into this post. As soon as the problem resolves I will edit this post and add my collage picture in! Goodness Technical difficulties!!

However, I will mention the qualities I have pictorial represented on my board, since pictures are not possible right now!
I am going to focus on patience in all areas of my life, moving toward a healthy lifestyle: both physically and emotionally, learning new skills: crafts, cooking, mommahood, and I am going to work on intimacy, with myself and my H4L.

Oh and my frivolous daring adventure this week...I made a commitment to myself and kept it! I PINKY DARED myself to get up, get dressed, fix my hair and do my make-up every single day this week; even if all I had planned was toilet cleaning and Baby DIVA playin'! I am happy to report I conquered dare 1! How about you?

Well lets get to it...

Week 2:

We now have our collage board and can begin to focus on different qualities we want to improve in our life. This is a wonderful step to improving the emotional side of our Sexy, fun loving self. Now we also need to implement some techniques to help with the physical side of our Sexy, fun loving self. We all know that mommyhood can definitely draw out the "ugly" side of our appearance; sweat pants covered in spit up, no make-up, no time to brush the teeth, you know the facts. Our collage board coupled with steps to improve our physical image of ourselves will enable the Sexy, Fun loving chick in all of us to begin to grow and mature and be strong enough to Unleash the Pink!

What are your physical vices? Do you eat like a crazed teenage with a supersonic metabolism, only your metabolism is not so super sonic? Do you hunt down the closest parking spot to maximize your ability to get no exercise? Are your drawers and cabinets so cluttered you need a hard hat each time you open them? Well these types of physical means, whether on our person or in our physical space, can contribute to the demise of our Sexy, Fun Loving self. Unhappiness in our physical appearance is a huge culprit in making us lack confidence, but unhappiness in our physical surroundings can yank us down too. Don't overlook this little bully. So we need to whip it in to gear. We all know this is not an overnight fix, well at least I hope we all know this. Nope instead we are going to slowly start making changes to our physical vices and couple that with our already in place use of our collage board for our emotional self. The emotional and physical changes that result from these exercises help us to lay a solid foundation for out Sexy, Fun Loving self to emerge, with Hot Pink Hair!!!

This week take your vice and make a change. If you normal live on a diet on Coney dogs with extra cheese, then switch to turkey dogs and half your usual cheese mound. If you are a parking lot stalker looking for the closest spot to the door to avoid walking, this week park about halfway out in the parking lot at least once, and walk into the store. Just a little step. Don't expect this week to go and change your diet so much that you only must survive on tofu. No No No! That will not help bring our Sexy Fun loving self back. Think about why you only eat coney dogs drenched in mounds of cheese; think about why it is you want to bring your Sexy, Fun Loving self back. Then have a look at that coney dog and figure out a comfortable change. You might be surprised that after evaluating the why and what of your vice, the change should come naturally.

Whatever physical vice you have in your life that is a roadblock for you and your Sexy, Fun loving self, I want you to focus on it this week. Devise a plan of attack and make a change. Even if it is to only clean out 1 cabinet or 1 drawer, or to only walk to the mailbox one time instead of driving, make one change and see how good it feels to be beginning to bring out the burlesque woman hidden inside you!

Frivolous PINKY DARE of the week: make your own glamour dust (glitter, chocolate sprinkles, a water bottle full of refreshing smelling water). Sprinkle it in your hair everyday. If you are bold enough, sprinkle it in the hair of those you encounter this week and bid them to have more fun in their life.

10 Things I have learned

List 10 things I have learned in my 14 months of mommahood...

1. Sometimes you are just too dang tired to bathe, and you go to bed without even batting an eye about it.
2. Breaking out in song and dance in any location really does happen in real life, when you have a screaming toddler.
3. Red Stop Lights become your friend, they are great pacifier and sippy cup finder moments.
4. Being a mom bonds you with strangers in grocery stores, elevators, crosswalks, without provoking.
5. There are no sick days.
6. Don't let your new walking child walk around wet on tile.
7. It is okay to run around diaperless, everyone does it.
8. Strange things live under car seats.
9. Exhaustion never felt so good when your child poops in her little potty, even if it is by accident.
10. Nap time is bliss.

Unleash the Pink #1

Let us start Unleashing the Pink!

This week I PINKY DARE you to make your own collage. Collect items, pictures, notes that all represent qualities you admire or you want to strengthen within your own self. Qualities may include but are not limited to love, integrity, passion, charisma, loyalty, happiness. Each memento on your collage should represent a quality to YOU. You can personalize this collage to your own desires. It can be magazine cutouts, glitter, fabric, photographs, it does not matter as long as it represents you and you alone. Then each day this week, take a moment to look at your collage. Focus on the pictorial representations of the qualities you have chosen and begin to fashion ways to integrate these qualities into your everyday life. For example, if you choose courage as one of your qualities, then pick a day and time and attempt something that would require you to use courage. Walking in to a new place alone, finally sending that manuscript to the publisher, cooking without the recipe. Only you know what it is you want to do. Use this collage as a pictorial starting line and Get it girl!!

This week I also PINKY DARE you to do something fun and frivolous. I PINKY DARE you to do something "bad", even if it is temporary. Get a temporary tattoo and put it somewhere risque, Cut your hair in a style you have always wanted to try or put a streak of blue in your hair, wear bright red lipstick just to check the mail, go ahead and wear that naughty new undergarment to the market and then tell your husband about it, while wearing it still, over dinner. Whatever it is, do something out of the ordinary for you this week that makes you feel like you might be breaking the rules.

Good luck ladies. Now I am going to go and Unleash the Pink myself!

Need a refresher on what is going on? Read this: Where did that Sexy, Daring, Fun loving chick go?

*This weeks Pinky Dare was modeled after some fabulous techniques I found in the wonderful book I Am Diva! *

Where did that Sexy, Daring, Fun loving chick go?

When I meet new people they are often captivated by the sight of my hair. The 31 year old mom, with hot pink hair grabs their attention and I can see a flood of emotions in their eyes. Envy, distaste, wonder, happiness. The emotions vary but the stares do not. I have many people, new friends and old friends alike, that greet my hot pink hair with a “I wish I could do something like that.” I am always appalled and wonder and even more often say, “Well Why can’t you?” Sure, Sure not everyone out there is in the market for a head full of pink hair, but I know many women out there would like to do something daring, like a hidden tattoo, wear sexy lingerie, or even put a stripe of loud color in their hair, but these women do not do it. Not only do they not do it, but they also lack they confidence to do this. Why is that? Why are we so afraid to do something bold, daring or sexy for ourselves, as a woman?

So who are these women? Well they are you and me. They are moms. I have learned that as we jump head first into the wonderful world of motherhood, we are often tackled with a loss of confidence. We loose or sense of sexy, our daring youth personalities and we slip into the cliche age of motherhood. We find ourselves unable to walk into a gym and climb up on a treadmill because we are too ashamed as to what all the other people will think of us. Why? Because we think we have let ourselves go, and when we see our self in the mirror we no longer see the sexy person inside. We allow ourselves to slip into motherhood and we loose all regard for ourselves. The idea of getting up and getting dressed in something other than stretchy pants and ponytails is something of the past. We slowly drift away into the background even when we are looking at ourselves in the mirror.

Why does this happen? How is it that a woman who is incredibly confident in herself allow the sexy, daring, fun loving talent within her to diminish as she open heartily raises children. Sure our confidence level soars in regards to our kids; fighting for whats right in terms of our children is first on the line for all of us, but why does the confidence in our personal selves fade away? Why is it so difficult for us to find ourselves sexy, daring, and fun loving after entering motherhood?

Well I am tired of it! And I am going to do something about it! I know you are probably thinking, “But Pink Haired Momma, you have the pink hair, how are you lacking in confidence?” Believe me, I feel the lack of confidence just as much as you. I find myself feeling insecure and un sexy. I find myself not having the DARE about me anymore. I am guilty of stretchy pants and ponytails, everyday. But not anymore. Starting this week I am implementing Unleash the Pink and I am making a change. And I am going to challenge all of you, my fabulous readers who are feeling a little less than sexy and daring, to do the same thing ; YOU, my friend, can Unleash the Pink!

Every Thursday from here on out I will provide us with a PINKY DARE for the week that will help us regain our confidence as not only mothers, but as Sexy, Daring, Fun loving, Confident women. I promise you I am not pulling crap out of my ass in the making of these exercises. They are tried and true techniques that I have used in the past, or have researched or will research before prompting us and will put us to the test. After the PINKY DARE posts on Thursday, we all have 7 days to complete the task. Then as the new PINKY DARE jolts into our life 7 days later, we can share our accomplishments and reflect with one another on how we are becoming the woman we once knew. In no time I believe we will begin to feel a difference and some of you may end up with pink hair, I hope!

Are you with me? Lets Unleash the Pink in all of us!

Stimulating Baby DIVA

Baby DIVA is very much into touching things these days. She loves to pet, smash, pat, pull, you name it. Our cats are getting a bit frustrated with this new found sensory game that Baby DIVA has developed. Among her bazillion trillion toys that she has for stimulation, I crafted up a little sensory board for her to "touch". I know it is simple, but she loves it. It was so easy to construct as well.

First I took a piece of cardboard and covered it with Hot Pink Zebra fabric, just for a little fancy flare. I then filled Ziploc bags with rice, almonds, and food colored water. I sealed the bags and attached with clear packing tape to the fabric covered board. I then found a little washcloth and attached this to the fabric board. I took our fabric rolly thingy (you know the lint remover) and pulled a sheet off, and then taped this to the board. And finally I taped a piece of aluminum foil to the board. Baby DIVA has 6 very different textures to touch, pat, push, pull and try to bust open :). She seems to be getting a kick out of this board and I am also taking the opportunity to try and teach her the words associated with the items on the board. It is a great cheap "toy" that I just put together from what we had lying around the house. So far we have gotten a ton of entertainment from it!

No more burnt hands

H4L gets frustrated sometimes when I am busy doing my Pink Haired Momma duty of dish washing and he sticks his hands in for a wash and gets burned. (Yes I hand wash, sue me!) H4L will come in to wash his hands, because you know he couldn't possibly use another sink in the house, or maybe do whatever it is he is doing that requires hand washing maybe at another time of day, like say when I am not washing dishes, but that is for another post. So here he comes and BAM he gets burned with my hot dish water. So sad.

Well, I have seen this little contraption on more than one occasion and had been keeping my eye on it, and I thought it was pretty cool. However I didn't think the little price tag was cool. Granted it was only about 25 bucks shipped, I thought it was a waste for something silly. And then one day during my super sonic Pink Haired Momma deal watching Internet searches I found this lovely contraption on a deal of the day for only $3.99 and free shipping. So I snagged it up.

Now said contraption has been installed in my kitchen sink. H4L no longer has to worry about sticking his hands in my dish washing steamy hot water, because now he just has to look and see what the temperature is...

Yep we are gadget nerds! Red for Hot. Blue for Cold. No more burns! Want one for your hubbs or your kids?? Click here.

Common Kid Virus

The other night at approximately 1 am, H4L and I were awakened by the shrills of a feverish Baby DIVA. Her temperature was running up near 103, and would not respond to Tylenol or Motrin. Although we were not panicked, it still is so not fun to have a feverish child, especially when you can not get the temp down. So first thing in the morning, we took her to see her peds.

It was there that the doctor brought to our attention a little virus that Baby DIVA may have. It is something I am not familiar with, although it is quite common for this age group. Therefore I want to share it with you, as many of you have children Baby DIVA's age.

It appeared that Baby DIVA had a simple virus known as Roseola. According to the Mayo clinic website, "Roseola is a generally mild infection that usually affects children by age 2. It occasionally affects adults. Roseola is extremely common — so common that most children have been infected with roseola by the time they enter kindergarten."

The symptoms are a fever and a rash. And The Mayo clinic defines the symptoms as such:
Fever. Roseola typically starts with a sudden, high fever — often greater than 103 F (39.4 C). Some children may also have a slightly sore throat, runny nose or cough along with or preceding the fever. Your child may also develop swollen glands in his or her neck along with the fever. The fever lasts for three to seven days.
Rash. Once the fever subsides, a rash typically appears — but not always. The rash consists of many small pink spots or patches. These spots are generally flat, but some may be raised. There may be a white ring around some of the spots. The rash usually starts on the chest, back and abdomen and then spreads to the neck and arms. It may or may not reach the legs and face. The rash, which isn't itchy or uncomfortable, can last from several hours to several days before fading.

Baby DIVA kept her normal happy and vibrant personality blooming all the while she was not feeling so swell. She was a bit testy but nothing out of the ordinary. Her temperature broke and we went on about our lives. A very easy and simple little virus to get through, common, but one to know about anyway. If you want to know more here is the Roseola link at the Mayo clinic!
